Growing Together in Mission

The Churches work together to respond to the needs in society today.

Housing Justice

Housing Justice is the national voice of Christian action on housing and homelessness.

  • It raises awareness about homelessness and bad housing e.g. through Poverty and Homelessness Action Week.

  • It supports churches responding to the needs of people who are homeless and vulnerable.

  • It campaigns for more affordable housing and better homelessness services.

Housing Justice was created in 2003 when CHAS (Catholic Housing Aid Society) and CNHC (Churches' National Housing Coalition) merged.

Chaplaincies
Hospital Chaplaincies are somewhere where day-to-day cooperation is crucial, at, for example, the Mayday Hospital in Croydon.
The English Anglican-Roman Catholic Commission visited the Chaplaincy at Mayday, and said afterwards: “It was felt that Mayday is a model of good chaplaincy practice.  What was particularly striking was the positive relationships that exist between members of the chaplaincy team and the rest of the hospital staff, with the chaplaincy being seen as an integral part of the life of the hospital.”

The Mission to Seafarers entered into a Covenant agreement with the Roman Catholic agency The Apostleship of the Sea in 2004.
The intention was to provide welfare facilities for seafarers on an ecumenical basis allowing each society to free up resources which could be used in other growing ports.

Campaigning and Lobbying  - two examples

Assisted suicide

The Church of England and the Roman Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales have consistently lobbied against proposed legislation for assisted suicide.
